This month we are thrilled to introduce you to Kiwi Spirits Distillery, a true gem in the world of spirits. The story of Kiwi Spirits Distillery is a tale of innovation and perseverance, starting in 1998 and officially taking flight in 2002. Like many great Kiwi endeavours, their journey began in a humble garden shed, next to the Waiporopupu Springs, renowned for having the clearest fresh water in the world.
From these modest beginnings, Kiwi Spirits Distillery upgraded to a custom-built shed and eventually moved into an old machinery warehouse, then known as Schnapp Dragon. After twelve years at this location, they found a new home in an old winery in Motupipi, marking the beginning of their current adventure.
The distillery first gained fame with its organic methode traditionnelle honey mead, Le Champs de Miel, crafted from organic honey. However, the introduction of the Varroa Mite in the early 2000s and the market being unprepared for their innovative product pushed them to diversify. They began producing European-style schnapps, and liqueurs from the abundant local organic fruits, and eventually expanded into whiskey, gin and vodka production. Notably, they also started creating TeKiwi 100% Weber Blue Agave, New Zealand's only Agave Spirit. Their journey has been far from easy, but as they say, good things require effort, and nothing fun happens by doing things the ordinary way!
Let's talk about the start of this month's subscription box. Championz Gin. This exceptional gin is a traditional London Gin, crafted entirely from spices with no greenery, floral or citrus elements. Despite the absence of citrus, the coriander seed brings forward a delightful hint of lemon, adding a subtle twist to its flavour profile.
